<p>Perhaps you may have seen a list of alkaline foods and wonder, why should we eat more alkaline-rich foods than acidic ones? To better understand, let us first<span id="more-253"></span> discuss the importance of keeping a balance pH level of the body.</p>
<p>pH stands for &#8220;potential of Hydrogen and is used to define the level of acidity or alkalinity of a solution.&#8221; The pH range can be from 0-14, with 0 being the highest level of acidity and 14 as the highest level of alkalinity. Our blood contains both acid and alkaline residues from the food we consume. Thus, the ideal pH of a healthy person is at 7.35 &#8211; 7.45. Even just a slight decrease of this level can cause damage to our cells, tissues, organs and eventually our body system.</p>
<p>Our cells need enzymes and nutrients to survive and we get these essential nutrients from the food we eat. Some foods contain higher levels of acid while there are foods that contain higher levels of alkaline. Acidic foods will of course leave acid residue and will be absorbed by our blood cells. On the contrary, alkaline-rich foods will leave alkaline residue in our cells. This is why there is a direct relationship between proper eating and maintaining a balance pH.</p>
<p>Nature has provided us with an abundant food variety. Fruits and vegetables are not just limited to a few kinds so we need not feel bored in eating the same thing every day. We don&#8217;t even have to deprive ourselves by sticking with just one type of meal to be fit and strong. All we need to do is to determine the level of alkalinity and acidity of different foods and match it with our diets.</p>
<p>Anthony Robbins has come with a list of alkaline foods and acidic foods so it shouldn&#8217;t be difficult to start this new method of dieting. Understandably, we should lessen our intake of acidic meals and beverages especially if we have already reached the borderline of being acidic. <p>Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the United States and it is the second most common cause of cancer death in men over age 55. The incidence of prostate cancer increases dramatically with each decade after<span id="more-242"></span> 50. Fortunately, prostate cancer tends to be slow-growing compared to many other cancers &#8211; the majority of prostate cancers either do not spread or cause any significant harm for decades.</p>
<p>In general, men run a 1-in-6 chance of developing prostate cancer at some point in their lives. More than 230,000 new cases are expected this year in the United States, with about 27,000 deaths.</p>
<p>Most men will choose conventional treatment, often surgery or radiation, but there are life-changing potential side effects they need to be aware of, and discuss with their doctors.</p>
<p>Surgery, called a prostatectomy for the surgical removal of the prostate gland, means impotence for about 75% of the men choosing this path, according to a September 2004 study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. Also, about 14% of the men were incontinent &#8211; could not control their bladder &#8211; five years after the operation. </p>
<p>With standard radiation therapy, the odds of impotence are about the same, 73%. The incontinence rate was much lower, just under 5%. There are new radiation therapies we discussed in the new guidebook How To Beat Your Prostate Cancer that have better outcomes.</p>
<p>No matter what conventional therapy a man chooses, if he does nothing else there is a 30% to 40% chance that his cancer or another cancer will recur. That&#8217;s because his immune system was not strong enough to protect him from the first cancer, and if he does nothing it will be no stronger the next time it is needed. In addition, radiation and chemotherapy depress the immune system, leaving it weaker than it was before you got treatment. Finally, any cancerous cells that survive the radiation and chemotherapy treatments, or escape the surgeon&#8217;s knife &#8211; and a few ALWAYS do &#8211; must be cleaned up by the immune system. Yet those cells that survived radiation or chemotherapy are, by definition, the strongest mutant cells. Cells that survive chemotherapy even have their own name: Multi-drug resistant. All of this means that if a man&#8217;s cancer recurs, the cure rates the second time around are much, much lower &#8211; on the order of 5% survival.</p>
<p>So even if a man chooses conventional treatment, the information and advice on alternative treatments in How To Beat Your Prostate Cancer is very important for his recovery and continued good health.</p>

<p>1. Pick a doctor carefully. The numbers above on impotence and incontinence are pretty scary. Remember that if you are talking to a surgeon, he probably will want to operate. If your doctor is a radiation oncologist, don&#8217;t be surprised if he pushes radiation. A clinical oncologist might counsel chemotherapy. Always consider the source. If you want to try alternative therapy first, since you really are not pressed for time, choose an alternative doctor or health care practitioner just as carefully. </p>
<p>2. Boost your immune system. If you&#8217;re going to undergo conventional treatment, you need to boost your immune system to deal with the impact of chemotherapy and radiation. You also need to clean up the remaining cells after therapy, and then build back your immune system so cancer does not recur. If you are going to pursue an alternative treatment path while you have the time, boosting your immune system is Job #1. <p>3. Alkalize your internal environment. Cancer cells are highly acidic, and cancer can&#8217;t live in an alkaline environment. You can test your pH level with test strips from the pharmacy or health food store. It should be over 7.0, preferably in the 7.2 to 7.4 range. If your internal body environment is acidic, it makes it much easier for cancer to grow and metastasize. Prostate cancer often metastasizes to the bones, making it much harder to beat.</p>
<p>4. Get more oxygen to your cells. Cancer hates oxygen. In the lab, when they are doing an experiment where they want cancerous cells to grow quickly, they simply turn down the oxygen. When they want to stabilize the experiment, they turn the oxygen back up. The same is true of your body.</p>
<p>5. Take vitamins and supplements. If you eat the Standard American Diet, you are eating fruits and vegetables grown on depleted soil, picked too early so they won&#8217;t ripen and spoil while they&#8217;re in the distribution chain, and then probably overcooked. Even if you are eating organic fruits and vegetables, grass-fed pastured meat and raw milk, you still can&#8217;t get the massive amounts of vitamins and supplements you need to let your immune system overcome a cancerous tumor that has become established. You must take high-quality vitamins and minerals, digestive enzymes and specific anti-cancer supplements like those recommended in Chapter 7 of How To Beat Your Prostate Cancer.</p>

<p>Boy or girl, boy or girl&#8230;. Which is it? Many parents enjoy the ups and downs of trying to guess the gender game when it comes to a baby.<span id="more-236"></span>
<p>For others selecting the sex of their baby is serious business. Believe it or not, there are scientifically grounded strategies for influencing the sex of your baby one way vs. another. No, this isn&#8217;t magic it&#8217;s just body chemistry. </p>
<p>Your diet can actually influence the pH of your body, making your vaginal secretions either alkaline or acidic, which can influence your chances for having a boy or girl. </p>
<p>Now, that said, changing your diet alone will not guarantee that you have a boy or a girl. But it can turn the tide in your favor if you are anxious for one sex or another. </p>
<p>Girl Baby Diet</p>
<p>You should eat foods rich in calcium and magnesium.</p>
<p>Here are some dietary suggestions for mom&#8217;s who want to conceive a girl baby:</p>
<p>- Eggs<br />
<br />- Milk or Milk Products<br />
<br />- Salt Free Food<br />
<br />- Ice Cream<br />
<br />- Tangerines<br />
<br />- Grapefruit<br />

<p>You should eat foods rich in sodium and potassium. </p>
<p>- Salted meat products<br />
<br />- Fish<br />
<br />- Sausage<br />
<br />- Rice<br />
<br />- Potatoes<br />
<br />- Beans<br />
<br />- Peaches<br />
<br />- Bananas<br />
<br />- Apricots<br />
<br />- Melons<br />
<br />- Tomatoes<br />
<br />- Sweet Corn</p>
<p>Of course it is not guaranteed that you will have a boy or girl simply by changing your diet. Other things you can do to influence the gender of your baby is to time intercourse. Research suggests that timing intercourse a few days before ovulation will result in a girl, whereas timing intercourse the day of or day before ovulation is more likely to result in a boy. This is because the male Y-sperms are considered weaker and will die off before you ovulate if you have intercourse earlier in your cycle. There are other studies that suggest that men who wear tighter underwear or keep their scrotum warmer are more likely to have girl babies, because the boy&#8217;s Y-sperm need a cooler temperature to survive. </p>
<p>Ultimately there are no guarantees when it comes to choosing the gender of your baby. There are some scientific methods that involve &#8216;spinning&#8217; sperm, but many of these are still under research and can be quite expensive. </p>
<p>No matter what method you choose, remember to have fun. The end result of your efforts is a beautiful baby regardless of their sex.</p>

Yes, when we speak of alkaline food, we&#8217;re talking about the kinds of food that we can get from<span id="more-231"></span> nature. These include fresh fruits and vegetables, grains, herbs, honey, and other natural food. Why are these good for the body?</p>
<p>Alkaline-rich food leave alkaline-ash or alkaline residue which neutralizes our body&#8217;s chemical pH. The exact opposite happens when we eat foods that are high in acid content. Examples of highly acidic food are pork, beef, pre-processed meals, artificial sweeteners, beer and other alcoholic beverages. When we consume these foods often, we are also collecting toxins in our system. This is because acidic foods leave acid-ash or acid residue when digested.</p>
<p>Therefore, a diet that consists of highly acidic food can sooner or later bring damage to our health. We can begin to see the effects of bad eating habits through premature signs of aging. People who frequently experience headaches, dizziness, muscle cramps, joint pains, heart palpitations, and fatigue are usually practicing an unhealthy lifestyle. Are you one of them?</p>

&#8226; Do I practice a regular exercise program?<br />
&#8226; Do I smoke cigarettes?<br />
&#8226; Do I often drink alcohol?<br />
&#8226; Am I aware of the alkalinity or acidity of the food I eat?</p>
<p>Seriously think about the above questions and ask, Are you putting yourself in great danger? Focusing on alkaline diet foods can still save you from health risks. However, you need to act fast before it&#8217;s too late. Don&#8217;t let chronic diseases catch up on you because you ignored the signs of incorrect dieting.</p>

<p>Acidosis is a condition in which body chemistry becomes imbalanced and overly acidic.</p>
<p>Symptoms with Acidosis include: frequent sighing, insomnia, water retention, recessed eyes, rheumatoid arthritis, migraine head aches, abnormally low blood pressure, dry hard stools, foul smelling stools accompanied by a burning sensation in the anus, alternating constipation and diarrhea, difficulty swallowing, burning in the mouth or under the tongue, sensitivity of the teeth to vinegar and acidic fruits, bumps on the tongue or the roof of the mouth.</p>
<p>Some causes of Acidosis are; kidney, liver and adrenal disorders, improper diet, malnutrition, obesity, ketosis, anger, stress, fear, anorexia, toxemia, fever, excessive amounts of aspirin and prescription drugs. Acidosis occurs when the body loses its alkaline reserves.</p>
<p>Do some of the conditions described sound like the problems of people suffering from old age? They probably do because aging is defined as an accumulation of acidic wastesin our body. </p>
<p>A simple test can be done to determine if you body is too acidic, too alkaline, or just right. Test your body often, this way you can monitor any changes and adjust your body accordingly.</p>
<p>This test is called your PH Test;</p>
<p>Purchase PH Paper, (from your health food store, the PH color graph will come with the paper), apply saliva /or urine to a piece of the paper .The paper will change color to indicate if your system is acidic or alkaline. Perform the test before eating or at least on hour after eating.</p>
<p>The scale called PH is;</p>
<p>1.01 to 6.9 is considered an acidic body</p>
<p>7.0 is neutral</p>
<p>7.1 to14.0 is alkaline</p>
<p>7.2 to 8.0 is the ideal alkaline level </p>
<p>Continue to test your PH level for the rest of your life, this is a good barometer to your internal health.</p>

<p>Causes of your acidosis are mainly diet. Research shows that when your food is broken down, it leaves chemical, non combustible ash which when combined with body fluids, yields either acidic or alkaline potentials of PH. Certain foods are acid forming, while others are alkali-forming. So it stands to reason that to change your body from an acidic body to an alkaline body you need to change your diet.</p>

<p>Corn Maple Syrup</p>
<p>Dates Molasses</p>
<p>Fresh Coconut Raisins</p>
<p>Fresh Fruits (most) Soy Products</p>
<p>Fresh Vegetables Umeboshi Plums</p>
<p>The citric acid in citrus fruits has an alkalizing effect on the system.</p>
<p>Low level Alkaline Forming Foods</p>
<p>Almonds Chestnuts</p>
<p>Black Strap Molasses Lima Beans</p>
<p>Brazil Nuts Millet</p>
<p>Buckwheat Soured Dairy products</p>
<p>The best alkaline forming drinks are;</p>
<p>Pineapple Juice, citric juices and Lemon water. To make lemon water; Add 1 tbsp. of lemon juice to all the water you drink. (Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day) </p>
<p>Avoid salt, antacids, alcohol, sugar &#038; all white foods (white flour, white rice,and white pasta, white sugar).</p>

The main goal is to keep the body&#8217;s alkaline-acid balance at just the right level.</p>

The alkaline diet is said to reduce the risk of a person&#8217;s developing chronic diseases. Premature signs of aging such as lethargy, anxiety, headaches, muscle pains, difficulty in breathing, etc. can also be avoided.</p>
<p>Ideally, a person must consume at least about 80% of alkaline-rich foods and only 20% of acidic foods. Broccoli, cucumber, avocado, almonds, lettuce, garlic, and parsley are just a few examples of alkaline-rich foods. Other foods that are found to be low in acid content are fish, flaxeed, dates, black beans, etc.</p>
<p>On the contrary, examples of acidic foods/beverages include pork, beef, coffee, liquor, beer, and artificial sweeteners. Frequent consumption of these kinds of food leads to an increased acidity and sooner or later, can badly damage your health.</p>
